Community Organizer

Location: Syracuse, NY (Hybrid)
Position: Community Organizer Reports to: Executive Director
Type: Temporary Part-Time (10 hours/week) with flexible scheduling Duration: 1 year contract
Pay: $20/hr

The Urban Jobs Task Force of Syracuse (UJTFS) is a collaboration of individuals and organizations advocating for and with disadvantaged Syracusans for equitable employment and economic opportunities. Our vision is a Syracuse where all prosper through good paying jobs and meaningful careers.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a passionate Community Organizer to join our team. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director and the Jobs to Move America Community Organizer to support campaign coordination and alleviate pressures on our leadership. The ideal candidate will be focused on driving initiatives related to the Good Jobs and Equitable Access campaign and enhancing outreach within the community.
Key Responsibilities:

Weekly Meetings: Conduct weekly check-ins with the Executive Director to report on:

Meetings held with the Jobs to Move America Community Organizer

Participation in relevant working groups

Progress on the campaign application

Strategic Direction: Collaborate with the Executive Director to explore next steps and obtain guidance on organizational priorities.

Administrative Updates: Provide regular updates to the Executive Director regarding administrative tasks, including:

Managing the Coordinator email

Communicating with membership and job seekers

Additional Tasks: Complete various administrative responsibilities as directed by the Executive Director, such as scheduling meetings.

Committee Leadership: Chair the advocacy committee and provide summaries of the meetings to the Executive Director.

Availability Communication: Maintain open communication with the Executive Director regarding personal capacity and determine additional responsibilities that can be undertaken.
Qualifications:

A strong commitment to racial, economic, and social justice and community engagement.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous experience in organizing, advocacy, or related fields is preferred.

Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
